"And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some teachers"
Ephesians 4:11
"Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all."
I Cor. 12:4-6
"But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth."
John 4:23-24

Freedom In Christ Evangelical Church of San Francisco began with a simple vision... to reach the gay & lesbian community with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Begun in 1991, Freedom has grown into a dynamic ministry within the gay community...
Freedom In Christ is a church which emphasizes the participation of
the entire body in ministry.
Maria Caruana is originally from New York
City, and comes to Freedom In Christ by way of Phoenix, Arizona.
In Phoenix Maria was an integral part of the ministry at Casa de
Cristo Evangelical Church and one of the first graduates of
Phoenix Evangelical Bible Institute. Maria brings many gifts to the body including her main calling of pastoring, or shepherding... a nurturing care for those who are served by this ministry. In addition to her
pastoral ministry, Maria also serves as Moderator of the Board of
Elders.
Before we were installed as deacons we were all surprised that our six months of preparation consisted mostly in studying the basic doctrines of our faith. What does doctrine have to do with being a deacon, which is a "practical" ministry of service? Yet, we discovered that, fundamentally, even though we do such "practical" things as set-up for worship, assist those in need, and help with handyman-work around the church, our ministry is spiritual and it is based upon the truth of Jesus Christ. That's why, even in the most menial duty, our service must be centered in the love and worship of God--or else it isn't a ministry of the church, but just busywork. As deacons we are called to be servants of the Body of Christ.
